Tanha Tanha Yahaan Pe Jeena

Rangeela (1995)

Another lovely song, and a very faulty rendition by me, didn't know how to cancel out all the noise generated while recording. Need to get more savvy on this. Anyways, do bear with me.

Update: Recorded this again, hope it's better this time.

You could try using Audacity to record your MP3s. Audacity has a kind of built in function to remove noise in a recorded stream. You can't do it real-time but you can perform noise reduction as a post-processing operation before you export the file as an MP3.

Tech,

I do use Audacity, have been using it right from the beginning. But the noise reduction function somehow doesn't work well with me, I am asked to create a noise profile before canceling it out and that's where the problem lies. Have you tried it out?

Yeah, I use Audacity for my guitar recordings. I find that the noise reduction works well if you use high quality equipment to start with. I bought a $9 microphone (which you can get for a 100 rupees maybe - the sort stage singers in orchestras use) and since I use an amplifier for my guitar, I managed to record quite well. Once you create a noise profile, you have to use the same command to run a noise reduction routine on the recording. Make sure you select the whole recording before you run the noise reduction command (of course).

There are a couple of other tricks - if you have a Sansa or other media player (or even your phone) record WAVs or RM files on it, and then convert it to MP3 before podcasting it. I use my Sansa when the laptop recording doesn't manage to capture the subtle high pitched sounds I play occasionally. Also, you could record in a room with lots of windows, when its relatively quiet. That helps sound quality too.

Try it out and let me know how it went off. :)
